Great Outdoor Holiday Gifts

The holidays are coming. Is there somebody on your list of gifts for the holidays who loves the outdoors and could use a new piece of camping gear? If so, here are some ideas to help you complete your holiday shopping.

Sleeping Bags - the first consideration for all beginning campers is a cozy and comfortable place to sleep. Do not skimp on quality, and if you opt for a child, buying an adult bag, because this will probably last many years to come.

Sleeping Pads - if they already have a sleeping bag, or if you can afford to spend a little more, get them the next camping item they want to improve the quality of their sleep outdoors.

outdoor_giftsTents - next item on the checklist will probably be a tent. Consider the number of people they are camping with to decide the size. And if they are hikers, look specifically for lightweight 1 or 2 person tents. Otherwise, look in the category of family tents.

outdoor_giftsCooking Equipment - food can still taste good when it is cooked outdoors. Consider a 2 burner propane stove. They are easier to use, produce a hotter flame, and are more compact than the fuel stoves.

outdoor_giftsLanterns - again, campers are migrating to the propane models versus the fuel lanterns. Flashlights are nice for emergencies, but its rather expensive with the cost of the batteries when used for prolong lighting.

For families with new family tents - your children have grown and now have not enough space in their 2-person tent for themselves and the new family member. Get your children larger family tent so they can share with their children the same wonders that you have introduced to their parents.

outdoor_giftsKitchen Utensils - As the family grows, so too the needs to prepare more meals. You can never go wrong by giving utensils. It will be used by those who enjoy the art of cooking outdoors.

Outerwear - we all know how quickly children can go through clothing. You as grandparents will do your own children a favor if you consider giving the grandchildren a few summer clothes for future adventures: jeans / shorts, hiking shoes / boots, rainwear, day packs, or SPF clothing.

favor_giftPortable Grills - great for camping, rear parts, and picnics. One of these would be appreciated by any outdoor chef.

favor_giftSwiss Army Knives - what should be said? These knives are synonymous with camping.

favor_giftShower Bags - cheap black plastic bags are a blessing camping somewhere without hot showers.

How many times have you gone shopping not knowing exactly what to get someone and while walking down the street you looked in a shop window and said, "Wow that would make a great gift for ...."
